Swiss skier Daniel Albrecht has undergone surgery on the left knee he injured in training for a World Cup downhill in Canada last week, the Swiss Ski Federation reported on Wednesday.
The 29-year-old's accident at Lake Louise last Thursday came almost four years after he spent weeks in an induced coma following brain and lung injuries sustained in another downhill training accident in Kitbühel, Austria.
His latest accident left him with a dislocated kneecap and torn ligaments.
"Daniel Albrecht...arrived back in Berne on Tuesday, and underwent successful surgery on his injured knee," the Swiss Ski Federation said in a statement.
The 2007 super-combined world champion and four-time World Cup winner returned to competition in December 2010 but he has avoided downhill events with the exception of a few races in January 2011.
