Police are looking for Virginie, a 25-year-old woman from the Lausanne region who went missing last Wednesday after informing her family she was going hiking on the Trient glacier in the canton of Valais.

Her parents and friends have not heard from her since, said Vaud cantonal police on Sunday.

The cantonal police department issued a call for help from the public in the hope of finding out the woman’s whereabouts.

Virginie regularly went on such excursions, Vaud police said.

Valais cantonal police have searched the Trient glacier area without success as of Sunday.

Vaud police described Virginie as slim, 165 centimetres tall, with curly, mid-length blond hair and blue eyes.

On the day she was last seen, her hair was tied up and she was wearing a dark green hair band with prescription glasses, police said.

She was clad in a light green t-short, black trousers, yellow mountain boots and an orange and grey backpack.

She may also have been wearing a turquoise-coloured mountain jacket, police said.

Anyone who may have seen Virginie or who may have information related to her disappearance is asked to contact Vaud police on 021 644 44 44 or at the nearest police station.
