Faithful dog guards murder victim’s body
Police are seeking witnesses after a woman’s body was found in a forest in Orpund, in the canton of Bern, on Monday.
Emergency services attended the scene shortly after 9am on Monday but could only confirm the woman’s death, Bern police said in a statement on Tuesday.
Initial forensic investigations revealed that the woman died from a “massive blunt force” and is thought to be the victim of a homicide.
According to Blick, the body was discovered by a dog walker by a road in the forest (not pictured).
Next to the body sat a dachshund, a witness told the paper.
“He was waiting by the side of his dead mistress,” she said.
The forest trail is popular with dog walkers and the woman’s death has caused worry among local residents, with one telling the paper: “The police haven’t even told us what happened. They just told us that we should not walk in the woods.”
Police are seeking witnesses who saw anything suspicious in the area on Sunday night in particular.
Anyone with information should call police on 032 324 85 31.
The woman has not yet been formally identified.
