Drugged-up bodybuilder causes road carnage
A Swiss amateur bodybuilder has caused a series of accidents as he drove on the wrong way down a motorway in the Czech Republic.
The man, a 33-year-old from Lucerne, was arrested after an 80 kilometre police chase. Police only succeeded in stopping him when his car ran out of petrol, according to tabloid Blick.
The paper, which identified the driver only as Sasha S. and published a topless picture of him, said the Swiss man was on vacation ahead of his wedding with a Czech on Saturday.
The paper said he had a mix of stimulants and other drugs in his blood, which likely caused him to be confused and dizzy when he drove his car onto the wrong lane. No one was seriously injured in the five accidents he caused along the highway, the paper said.
The man was finally caught after an 80km police chase and was taken to the hospital. On Tuesday, he was brought – handcuffed – to a police station and on the way there he briefly talked to reporters to apologise to those he hurt.
If convicted, the man faces between 3 and 8 years in jail, the paper said. Wedding plans have been put on hold temporarily, it added.
