Three beards that rocked the Alps
A bevy of bearded gentlemen battled it out in idyllic Alpine surroundings on Sunday to see who would have his facial hair declared the most elegant in Switzerland.
Hirsute competitors from far and wide made a bushy-chinned beeline for the spectacularly situated town of Chur and the 26th edition of the Alpine Beard Festival.
Thousands of furry face fans were wowed by an astonishing array of some 40 world-class moustaches and crumb catchers in a competition where only the hairiest survive.
When the votes were counted in the “natural full beard” bracket, the only category to get the full jury treatment at this year’s event, it was the fuzzy-faced trio of home-grown talent Albert Schmid, along with Germans Ernst Schuster and Willi Preuss, who shared the plaudits.
