Young performers can get boost from Zurich course

Learning to act, dance and sing are among the most rewarding things a young person can do. Now, students in Zurich can learn these skills from English-speaking actors, choreographers and other theatre professionals.

The Simply Theatre Academy currently educates 400 students a year in Geneva and Bern. Students aged 4-17 learn skills as diverse as sword fighting and stage make-up. Now it is taking its brand of quality English theatrical entertainment and education to Switzerland’s largest city.

The academy was founded by Jenna Melling and Thomas Grafton in 2005 to meet demand for quality English theatrical entertainment and education in Switzerland, and is now the top English-speaking drama school in the country. Many of Simply Theatre’s experienced and passionate instructors have worked in London’s West End and elsewhere, and provide students with a course where they both learn new skills and develop as individuals.

“Through our courses, students learn skills that will stick with them for life,” says Thomas Grafton.

“From confidence-building, to working with a team and learning to conquer their fears, our students finish our courses highly prepared for the challenges of everyday life. Such an offer does not currently exist in the Zurich region to this professional standard.”

Students attending the Zurich course will be able to take exams leading up to the highly recognised London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) diploma. They can also audition for a number of high quality productions throughout the year and enroll in a range of summer workshops. Students aged thirteen and above can also sign up for an annual weekend trip to London’s West End where they attend two professional productions and experience a weekend of theatre and culture.

The Simply Theatre Academy will run courses for 10-17 year-olds in Zurich from January 2012, with courses for 7-17 year olds starting in September 2012.
