A snack bar in Zurich is serving sausages with a sauce so strong that ambulances have shown up on several occasions to rescue fearless eaters.

The Körry Art of Wurst in the city's red light district has invited customers to put their stomachs to the test with its diabolical condiment.

Food stand owner Michael Marchetto has made no secret of the fact that the sauce comes with a warning: “It's 500 times stronger than Tabasco,” he told newspaper 20 Minuten.

Only an average of four to five people dare to try it in a given week, but Marchetto has had to call emergency services on three occasions when customers fainted after ingesting the hot sauce.

But the most common reaction among customers is vomiting. "One client fell off his chair, and vomited when he was on the ground," said co-manager André Sigrist, who is not willing to withdraw the product.

"It's part of the game. In Germany too, they offer strong sauces like this,” he added.

A reporter from the free newspaper tried the sauce but said it was “inedible.” He explained that he had to spit out the sausage because it was “the strongest thing” he had ever tasted.

"My mouth was on fire, it was really bad, he said." Hours later, his stomach was still upside down.

Doctor Andreas Paul Müller, from the gastroenterology department at the Hirslanden Clinic, recommended consumers to exercise the utmost caution. Extreme sauces can cause severe intestinal damage, he warned.
