FC Basel's Swiss international midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri has signed a four-year deal for Bayern Munich from next July, the Bundesliga club announced on Monday.

"We're delighted with Xherdan Shaqiri to be able to sign one of the most sought-after talents in Europe," said Bayern sporting director Christian Nerlinger.

"Xherdan will reinforce our team in the coming seasons thanks to his intelligence and game, we've been observing his performances for quite some time and I'm convinced that he can become an important player for Bayern," added coach Jupp Heynckes.

Shaqiri signed until 2016 for an undisclosed fee which local media have estimated at between 12 and 13 million euros.
