Swiss students: Google most desirable employer

American internet giant Google has knocked Swiss company Nestlé off the top spot for the first time to become the most desired employer by business students in Switzerland, according to a survey published on Thursday.

The annual survey, carried out by Swedish employer branding consultancy Universum, aims to identify the career aspirations of Generation Y and assess how they perceive the attractiveness of potential employers.

Nestlé, the food and beverage company based in Vevey, has previously topped the poll but was this year overtaken by Google as the preferred employer of business students.

Yves Scheuwly, country manager at Universum Switzerland, said in a statement. “We’ve observed this phenomenon around the world in other global markets where Universum conducts surveys. Everyone wants to work at Google – even business students.”

Completing the top five most attractive employers to business students are Banks UBS and Credit Suisse and professional consultancy PricewaterhouseCoopers.

As expected, Google also tops the poll among IT students, and figures in the top 10 most desired employers by students of life sciences and humanities.

Swiss pharma behemoth Novartis is the most desired employer among life sciences students, with Roche second and Nestlé in third place.

Over 11,000 students from 48 leading universities took part in the survey.
