The victim, a 33-year-old man from Mali, died from knife wounds after being attacked at around 3am, city police said

A resident of the apartment building on the Avenue du Cour contacted police who arrived with ambulance attendants to find the man in a corridor, bleeding from a chest wound, according to media reports.

Police found the woman kneeling next to the victim, 24heures newspaper reported online.

Police assume the woman murdered the man, the newspaper said.

In another online report Le Matin cited residents who said the victim was a relative newcomer to the building who had been regularly invited to the woman’s apartment, where their meetings “often ended in violent disputes”.

Neighbours said the woman suffered from depression following the suicide of her young son, according to the report.

“An odour of cannabis issued regularly from her apartment,” one neighbour was quoted as saying.

The local prosecutor has launched a criminal investigation into the case.
