Tennis players were quick to respond on Twitter to Stan Wawrinka's shock French Open victory against number one Novak Djokovic. Here's a sampling of a few of the tweets:

Fellow countryman and 17-time Grand Slam winner Roger Federer didn't waste any words:

Wawrinka's coach, former Swedish tennis player Magnus Norman, himself a runnerup in the 2000 French Open, was beaming at the outcome:

But a couple of WTA women players sympathized with Wawrinka and the emotions that ran high as the trophies were handed out at Roland Garros:

Other players such as American Alison Riske and former ATP star Ivan Ljubicic were bowled over by Wawrinka's dazzling performance:

And Serena Williams, hot of her own French Open victory on Saturday, was equally admirative:

But one thing that did not escape the Twittersphere was commentary on Wawrinka's shorts, which the Swiss player gladly played along with:
