A man who crashed his car after a bird flew into through the window has been banned from driving for at least two years.

Imagine this: you are driving along when a bird shoots in through the open window of your car. You then try and shoo it away by waving your arms about. The next thing you know, you’ve crashed into a post on a traffic island.

As if your day wasn’t going badly enough, the police then fine you 200 Swiss francs and take away your licence for failing to control your vehicle.

That’s what has happened to one man from the canton of Lucerne after a bird allegedly made his way into his car in October 2014.

Usually the driver at the centre of the incident would have got off with a warning, according to Switzerland’s 20 minutes newspaper.

But he had a record, having been forced to give up his licence three times in the previous decade for other traffic violations. He has now been banned from driving for at least two years.

There is a happy end to this story though. The bird is reported to have lived. When the man opened his car door after the crash, it flew off as if nothing had happened.
