Switzerland braces for more heavy rainfall

Plenty of rain fell overnight on Wednesday and Thursday is looking even worse, with more heavy rain expected especially in the cantons of Ticino and Graubünden.
Heavy rain swept across parts of Switzerland on Wednesday night, with Geneva getting a 23mm soaking.
Even more dramatically, the picturesque Onsernone valley in Ticino had already registered more than 50mm of rain by 8am on Thursday, according to national broadcaster SRF.
The unseasonably wet conditions are set to continue across much of the country on Thursday, with Ticino and Graubünden set to see the worst of the weather.

There is also a chance of localized floods and mudslides, particularly in parts of Graubünden and southern Glarus. These areas don’t often see rainfall of 60-100mm and heavy rain in recent weeks has left some hillsides unstable.
