Police have opened an investigation after finding a body buried in a house in Orbe, in the canton of Vaud, on Saturday.

In a statement, Vaud police said at around 7.30pm on Saturday they received information that there could be a dead body in the private residence.

A search team was dispatched to the property and after several hours of investigations they found a body buried in the basement.

“The circumstances surrounding the death are not yet known and legal medical examinations are being carried out,” said police.

According to Le Matin, the body could be that of a woman who lived with her husband in the house in Orbe.

A neighbour told the paper that police may have been tipped off by the couple's adult daughter, who had become concerned after being unable to contact her mother on the phone.
