Whether you’re one of the 20,000 Americans in Switzerland or just an interested party concerned about the result’s potential impact on the world (that’s the rest of us then), tonight’s election is bound to be a gripping affair.
But where to watch it? We’ve rounded up the biggest election night gatherings in the country.
The country’s biggest election night party is being held in Geneva, hosted by five American organizations in the city including Democrats Abroad and Republicans Overseas. Americans and their friends of all political persuasions are invited to this American Election Night Celebration in Villa Sarasin from 9.30pm to 5am including live streaming of election night, live music and entertainment and a raffle. The US embassy in the Swiss capital is hosting a live results viewing event at the Kornhaus Café from midnight tonight until 8am, including live music and refreshments. More info here.
Zurich university’s politics association is organizing an election night event at the Karl der Grosse social club. The evening kicks off with a discussion between politics experts from the university and federal technology institute ETH Zurich, followed by live coverage of the results as they come in. Also in Zurich, Democrats Abroad is co-organizing a free event at the Riesbach community centre, including a round-table discussion about America post-Obama, live music, drinks and bar snacks.

The US Chamber of Commerce in Zurich is hosting a ticketed breakfast event at the Park Hyatt Zurich from 6am to discuss the election results. More info.
Democrats Abroad is holding a family-orientated election night party in Basel (location confirmed to ticket holders) from 9pm tonight. Music and games will be staged alongside live streaming of the election, before breakfast in the morning. Children can go to sleep in the ‘quiet area’ – bring your own sleeping bags. Sign up here.
