A recent reader survey published by the Local shows that many international residents living around Europe are desperately hoping to be able to travel this summer.

They may get their wish at last, as more destinations that had been closed to tourism due to the pandemic, are finally opening to international travellers.

Where will you be able to fly from Switzerland?

By mid-summer, SWISS airline will be offering a total of 125 flights, including 85 from Zurich and 40 from Geneva.

The flagship carrier will add or resume 24 destinations from Zurich and Geneva in June, followed by 25 more in July.

In Europe, the airline will fly to Amsterdam, Bordeaux, Brindisi, Cork, Florence, Heringsdorf, Ljubljana, Milan, Marseille and Oslo.

It will also offer new connections to Billund and Tallinn from Zurich. And on the long-haul segment, the company will resume flights to Cairo and Los Angeles.

From Geneva, direct services will be resumed to Alicante, Biarritz, Brindisi, Catania, Faro, Heraklion, Ibiza, Corfu, Mykonos and Thessaloniki. SWISS will also offer new connections to Funchal, Ponta Delgada, Santorini and Split.

Basel-Mulhouse EuroAirport is also offering flights to more than 90 destinations, mostly via EasyJet and WizzAir carriers.

“Apart from the Balearic Islands and the Canaries, which are leading destinations the whole year around, Basel-Mulhouse has connections to Greece, Italy, Portugal, Spain and nearly the whole of Adriatic coast”, according to the airport’s website.

Additionally, four airlines are offering flights to Hurghada in Egypt: EasyJet, Corendon Airlines, Air Cairo, and Fly Egypt.

Among other new cities reachable from Basel will be Valencia, where EasyJet will fly several times a week. There will also be five flights each week to Palermo, by EasyJet and WizzAir.

And Wizzair has already been flying to Sarajevo since May 21st and will continue throughout the summer.

But while many countries are welcoming foreign tourists, keep in mind that travel rules still vary from one place to another, so check the entry requirements at your destination ahead of time.
