Eight people were injured Monday when a regional train derailed in the north-eastern Swiss canton of Aargau and hit a freight locomotive, a Swiss Federal Rail spokesman told AFP.

The regional train bound for the German village of Waldhut was carrying around 50 passengers when it derailed around 1021 GMT in the town of Doettingen, "grazing" the locomotive.

The cause of the accident, which injured both drivers, is under investigation and the rail line will be closed until later Monday, the spokeman added.
