How much can you transport on the roof of a car?

Quite a lot, judging by this photo. The modestly-sized vehicle was carrying a scooter, two baby strollers and 15 bicycles on its roof when Lucerne police stopped it on Saturday.

The car, which had French licence plates, was stopped by a patrol on the A2 motorway at Emmenbrücke on Saturday morning, Lucerne police said in a statement.

According to police, the heavy load exceeded the maximum weight for both the roof and the axel.

The vehicle also had two worn back tyres.

Due to “lack of operational safety” police ordered the driver to offload his cargo and to change the two rear tyres before allowing him to continue his journey south.

He was also fined 920 francs, said police.
